Debbi Reed, Treatment Coordinator and Patient Relations, grew up in Syracuse, New York, and has not looked back since. Along with her teenage son, she has lived on Hilton Head and been with the orthodontic practice since 2005.
Debbi’s education in business management, along with her previous ownership of a small business and management of several others, has served her well fulfilling many roles in a small private practice. She finds it exciting and challenging to help with the growth and success of Orthodontics in Paradise. Our patients get to experience a professional atmosphere that is comfortable and welcoming.
“As part of Dr. Duke’s staff, I enjoy the ‘family’ setting in the office. We all get along in and out of the office, and Dr. Duke welcomes our ideas and gives us each the chance to grow and learn through the practice. The idea of a small office setting is one of the most attractive things about the job. It also allows us to have personal contact with every patient.”
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, being a “lacrosse mom”, and is known locally as “The Pie Lady.”
Cathy Cooler, a Certified Dental Assistant, grew up in an Air Force family and traveled extensively as a child. She has worked exclusively in the dental/orthodontic field since 1990 and with this orthodontic practice since the year 2000.
Cathy moved to Okatie in 1994 following her marriage to a captain in the Bluffton Fire Department. She and Walt have two girls and, as a family, they love to spend time on the May River shrimping, crabbing, and hanging out on the dock with family and friends. Cathy and Walt are members of a Harley Davidson group and have taken a number of long-distance road trips on their bike.
“I really enjoy the close feeling we get from working in a small practice. We make every effort to get to personally know each of our patients, which helps to build trust between us. We listen to their concerns and do whatever it takes to provide exceptional care”.
In her spare time, Cathy loves her summer garden and is volunteer coordinator for the Bluffton Bulldog football team.
Working behind the scenes as bookkeeper is Theresa Baker, Dr. Duke’s wife of 33 years. Although born in St. Louis, Theresa grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte (an all-girls school back then!) with a History major and later worked on her Master’s degree for teaching Social Studies.
Theresa supported Dr. Duke through dental school and later as a middle school teacher during his orthodontic residency (with three young boys!). She later began managing the financial aspects of his orthodontic practice in Indiana.
Being a long-time “employee” in Dr. Duke’s practices, she has juggled being wife, Mom, household manager, taxi driver, while also being a volunteer for church and community organizations. She enjoys daily walks on the beach with Louis and Clark, reading, bridge and book clubs, and is an accomplished cook.
“I also enjoy making living spaces comfortable and inviting and hope everyone feels at home in the ‘Tommy Bahama’ inspired atmosphere at the office.”
